Google Plus buys British Telecom for $19 billion

nokia-100-analogue-6In a dramatic response to Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp yesterday, leading social network Google Plus has acquired BT, the UK-based telecommunications company.

“It was an opportunity we couldn’t miss out on – BT is one of the leading innovative communication firms in UK, showing exciting steady growth over the last 170 years. Their experience and network will allow us to add literally hundreds of new users, potentially doubling our current user base.”

Along with the business’s existing network of telegraph poles and copper wiring, the deal also includes various other assets, including patents on BT Voicemail and the BT pension deficit.

Tech commentators are already drawing parallels to moves by Google in April of last year, when the search giant bought out a majority shareholding in Kodak following Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram.

A spokesman from Google commented, “Cookies help us deliver our services. By using our services, you agree to our use of cookies.”
